Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
