Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
