Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed playing different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York City to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play countless hours and lose most times. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.
The actual improvement in his skills began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly wager against one another. He was able to access a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
