Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players in the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before.
