Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
