Distracting Players

January 14th, 2013 at 2:21

Do you ever acquire that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the nearest betting house, to locate a superior stakes game of Texas hold em, to sit at a Chemin de fer table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I love to scratch it.

I also like to watch folks gamble. No two poker faces seem equal. When I bet I like to assume I put on a poker face which is impenetrable. But I know I’ve certain personal habits. For 1, the only time I smoke is when I play poker or Black jack. And then I chain smoke. But I chain smoke whether I am winning or losing, no matter if I have a excellent hand or bad.

I once bet in the weekly poker game. The casino game was constantly five card draw. There was a guy who wagered with us every single week who usually wore a hat. When he was given a good hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and betting with his hat. Pointless to say, he in no way won.

The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a player who produced much more movements and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Constantly an high-priced suit and tie, footwear shined and nails manicured. He was diligent in this manner. And he was generally brushing his pants or holding his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to study him for hours. I’d tried to see if I could notice his tell. Selecting lint off his jacket- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a very short pile – did this imply he had a good hand?

Years later I bumped into him in a very bar in Vegas and we had a drink. I asked him if he were aware of all those activities he created or if they have been subconscious. He informed me that just about every individual thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everyone is usually checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are trying to detect the the tell.

So his system was to provide them lots to believe about. His reasoning was if they have been pondering about him choosing a piece of fuzz off his coat and what it meant they certain were not pondering about their cards.

His technique was distraction. And it worked for him. By no means give up a technique that operates for you.
