Bad Fortune in Poker

June 1st, 2010 at 10:21

For a game where most participants occasionally consider good luck, there are tonnes of superstitions in poker. When you say that someone was blessed in that poker tournament they captured, be mindful of how you say it. For example, if you say that you were unfortunate, your chances may never change.

Ok, that might sound a bit ubsurd, but poker is a game loaded with superstitions. Did you know that if you’re wagering a game with 2 seperate decks and you are asked to pick the deck, you should always pick the deck that’s the furthest away from you? Or, how about If you get a streak of poor cards, you have to sit on a hankerchief to destroy your bad luck? It is certainly thought of as good luck to blow through a deck of cards while they’re being shuffled.

A few other interesting poker folklores are:

  • You can change the run of cards by passing around your chair 3 times.
  • The most beneficial spot at the poker table faces the entry.
  • The most detrimental seat has its back to a fireplace.
  • When changing seats, you should always do so clockwise.
  • The worst poker card is the 4 of clubs.
  • It’s very unfortunate to cross your legs when sitting at the poker table.
  • Friday is a terrible day for wagering on cards.
  • The thirteenth is also a horrible day, no matter when it falls.
